8 Fun Ways to Spend Galentine’s Day With Your Girl Squad

Valentines Day is not just for lovers. I personally have never been a fan of V-Day. I feel like it gives people an excuse to not have “just-because” acts of kindness in romantic relationships, and obligatorily confines such behavior to one day out of the year. Restaurants are packed, Wal-Mart and Walgreens alike have dedicated entire isles to stuffed animals, as well as all the chocolate your heart can desire. A man after my own heart would recognize that he should buy me the chocolates and stuffed animals after the actual holiday. Why? Discounted chocolates…duh!

Enter Galentine’s Day — aka February 13th. This is something I can get on board with. Thank you, Leslie Knope (of Parks & Recreation) for inventing this unofficial holiday meant to appreciate and celebrate the women in your life that keep you sane every trip around the sun. A day dedicated to “ladies celebrating ladies.” Normally Galentine’s Day, per Leslie Knope standards, is celebrated by brunch accompanied with a gift exchange (mind you an extremely well thought out gift exchange that puts even the best gift giver you know to shame). But if strategically planned brunches isn’t your cup of tea, I’ve compiled a list of 8 ways you can spend Galentine’s Day with your girl squad. Unapologetically brunch is on this list!

1. Have a Pajama Party

Kick it like its 2005 and have the slumber party you always wanted to have when you were in middle school – no adult supervision and dessert for dinner. Rom-coms not required. Matching pajamas optional. Wine? Oh, most definitely yes.

2. Visit an Escape Room

I have had some of the best times with my girlfriends going to an escape room. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to start off a fun-filled outing with friends. Also, it’s a great group activity because whether you are trying to get off the island you’ve been stranded on or stop a heist at a casino, there is room for everyone’s strengths to contribute in order to effectively break out in time.

3. Host a Dinner Party

Have you even tried to adult if you haven’t hosted a dinner party yet? Peruse Pinterest and plan a cute menu for the evening! Invite your squad over and have them dress up for the event. Of course, if cooking isn’t your thing order something in or better yet, have each person contribute a dish and a bottle of wine!

4. Go to a Wine or Bourbon Tasting/Visit a Distillery

Depending on where you live you may have more wineries than distilleries. Either one is the perfect group outing. Most are located outside of the city, so not only do you get a fun tour, but also a mini road-trip to a new city or town. Choose your playlist wisely!

5. Go to a Paint & Sip

Calling all artists and creatives! You can leave with a masterpiece or a disaster. Either way, paint and sips have the potential to be a fun event with your girl squad. Paint and sips actually stress me out! I get caught up in trying to get everything just-so to where I get behind, and then I end up bothering my friends to ask “what did the instructor just say?” So if you are like me, it’s totally fine to just go for the wine!

6. Take a Cooking Class

If you and your friends are obsessed with watching Food Network and Cooking Channel, and the majority of the accounts you follow on Instagram are food related, take the next step and try out a cooking class. Learn to make pasta from scratch, or even macarons!

7. Go to a Museum

Museums are a blast because if you live in a larger city there are a diverse array of them that can appeal to each person in your group. Beyond art museums, there are news museums and crime museums, not to mention pop-up installations. Options for fun abound.

8. Go to Brunch

I have unapologetically included brunch in this list. Call me basic, but brunch is the lifeblood of the weekend. Not to mention the most underrated meal! Host your girls at your house or hit up a new restaurant in town.

If any one of these 8 activities suit your fancy, round up your girls and start making plans. Galentine’s Day is only two days away after all!
